Keep calculating from left to right.
Start with the starting number and work step by step
through the problems on the caterpillar.
The filled in numbers show the answer.

Example

What does this exercise practice?

This exercise practices sequential calculating: each result becomes the starting number of the next step, which trains the working memory.

Common pitfalls

Children sometimes use the starting number instead of the in-between result for the next step. Write down each in-between value clearly before calculating on.

How to practice at home

Roll a number together and then add 2 three times in a row, who reaches the end? This turns sequential calculating into a game.
