In two containers there are things next to each other.
First count the things in the left container.
Then count the things in the right container.
Add both amounts together and write down the result.
The filled-in example next to it shows how it works.
Example
What does this exercise practice?
This task links counting amounts with adding. The child experiences that adding means putting two amounts together.
Common pitfalls
Some children count one amount twice or forget a container. Tapping each picture with a finger and counting out loud helps.
How to practice at home
Fill two small bowls with nuts or building blocks. First count each bowl on its own, then add them up together.
