The knight in chess always moves the same way - two squares straight, then one to the side.
Run your finger two squares up, down, left or right and then one across. If you land on a numbered square, that is the one.
Other pieces do not block it - the knight jumps right over them.

The knight's move practises thinking ahead in space and counting squares carefully in two directions - with no arithmetic at all.

Children often move diagonally like a bishop. But the knight always goes straight first and then across.
