Number Magic

Explanation with example for the task type zauberbild.

Letters are along the top, numbers down the left. That is how you find each square.
Read the named squares one after the other.
Color in exactly those squares.
At the end a secret number appears.
The filled-in example next to it shows the answer.

Example

  • 3ABCDE12345

What does this exercise practice?

Finding squares by column and row practices orientation in a grid, a first step toward the coordinate system.

Common pitfalls

Do not mix up the letter and the number. First find the column along the top, then the row on the left.

How to practice at home

On squared paper, call out squares and have them colored in until a small picture appears.
