Math Maze

Explanation with example for the task type rechenweg_labyrinth.

In the maze there are several numbers in each column.
Find the right numbers that together make the target sum!

The right numbers are connected with thick lines.

Example

3527= 10

What does this exercise practice?

This exercise trains strategic thinking and mental adding. Children learn to check number pairs against a goal and find the right combination by trying.

Common pitfalls

Children often just take the first number in each column. Show that it makes sense to choose a number first and then check whether the remaining columns still allow the right remaining sum.

How to practice at home

Write three numbers on each of several slips of paper and lay out two stacks side by side. Everyone draws one card per stack and checks whether the sum is right. Whoever makes the target sum wins the round.
