Multiplying

How many times does one number fit into another?
The filled in number shows the answer.

Example

2 + 2 + 2=62fits3times

For parents

What does this exercise practice?

This exercise lays the foundation for multiplication: children recognize that multiplying means repeated adding and develop a feeling for divisor relationships.

Common pitfalls

Children often guess instead of checking systematically. Suggest writing the smaller number down several times and keeping a running total until the target number is reached.

How to practice at home

Lay coins in rows: 3 rows with 4 coins each. How many are there altogether? Counting like this without calculating builds the understanding of multiplication in a playful way.
