Look at the left column and the top row.
Work it out: number on the left + number on top = result in the box.
Example: 3 + 1 = 4
The numbers shown give the answer.
Example
What does this exercise practice?
This task makes adding systematic: children fill in a table and spot patterns of how results connect when the row or column changes.
Common pitfalls
Children sometimes read off the wrong row or column. It helps to trace the row and the column with a finger before the math, until they meet at the correct box.
How to practice at home
Make a small addition table in your head: how much are 2+1, 2+2, 2+3? Write the results next to each other. Do you spot the pattern? Always one more!
