Example
What does this exercise practice?
This task practises adding a fixed number to different starting numbers. Children build a routine for addition tasks with a constant middle addend.
Common pitfalls
Children sometimes add the arm value twice or forget the middle. Suggest writing the middle on a slip of paper first and then adding it to each arm one at a time.
How to practice at home
Roll a die and set the number as the middle. Then take turns rolling arm numbers and working out the sum. Whoever says the result first gets a point. Three rounds, then a new middle.
