When you compare you look at which number is bigger.
There are three signs for that: less than (<), greater than (>) and equal (=).
The open end of the sign always points to the bigger number.
Example: 34 < 43
34 is less than 43, so the point faces the 34.
Tip: with two-digit numbers compare the tens first.
If the tens are the same, the ones decide.
The numbers filled in show the solution.
Example
34<43
67=67
For parents
What does this exercise practice?
Compare numbers up to 100 confidently by size and put in the right sign.
Common pitfalls
Children often get the direction of the sign wrong. A memory trick: the crocodile's mouth is hungry and snaps at the bigger number.
How to practice at home
Compare prices while shopping: what is more expensive, what is cheaper? That practices comparing in everyday life.
