There is fruit in two baskets. Add up both amounts.
Example: 12 apples and 15 apples.
12 + 15 = 27, so there are 27 apples in both baskets together.
Tip: first add the tens (10 + 10 = 20), then the ones (2 + 5 = 7).
Together that makes 20 + 7 = 27.
The numbers filled in show the solution.
Example
For parents
What does this exercise practice?
Add two two-digit amounts confidently and write down the result.
Common pitfalls
When adding, children often forget to carry the ten. Saying it out loud helps: first the tens, then the ones, then both together.
How to practice at home
Put fruit or blocks into two bowls, count each bowl and then both together.
