An even number can be split into two equal halves with nothing left over.
An odd number always leaves a remainder of one.
Tip: just look at the last digit!
If the number ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8, it is even.
If the number ends in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9, it is odd.
Example: 24 is even (12 and 12), 37 is odd (18 and 18 and one is left over).
Sort the numbers into even and odd.

What does this exercise practice?
Tell whether a number is even or odd from its last digit.
Common pitfalls
Children often look at the whole number. Only the last digit decides whether a number is even or odd.
How to practice at home
While setting the table, check whether the number of plates fits into two equal rows. If it works out, the number is even.
