Ordering Numbers

Ordering numbers means laying them out by size.
Usually you start with the smallest number.

Example: 45, 12, 78
The smallest number is 12, then comes 45, then 78.
Sorted from smallest to largest: 12, 45, 78.

Tip: look at the tens first. If the tens are the same, look at the ones.
The numbers filled in show the solution.

Example

45127812<45<78
90345634<56<90

For parents

What does this exercise practice?

Compare numbers up to 100 by size and put them in order.

Common pitfalls

Children often look only at the ones. 78 is bigger than 45 because 7 tens are more than 4 tens. Compare the tens first, then the ones.

How to practice at home

Lay out number cards in a jumble and sort them from smallest to largest together.
