With a tally chart you count how often something occurs.
For every thing you make one mark.
Tip: always bundle five marks together (four upright, one across).
That way they are easier to count at the end.
Example: 7 marks are one bundle of five and two single marks.
You work out: 5 + 2 = 7.
The numbers filled in show the solution.

What does this exercise practice?
Collect data and learn to count it in bundles of five.
Common pitfalls
Single marks get forgotten while counting. Count the full bundles of five first, then add the single marks.
How to practice at home
For a week, count with marks how often you eat pasta, rice or potatoes.
