Comparing Measurements

You compare two values, for example 2 kg and 1900 g.
Between them you write the sign for smaller, greater or equal.

Here's how:
1. Bring both values to the same unit.
2. Example: 2 kg is 2000 g.
3. Then compare the numbers: 2000 g is more than 1900 g.

The sign filled in shows the solution.

Example

  • >
  • =

For parents

What does this exercise practice?

Compare weights and capacities by converting them to a common unit.

Common pitfalls

Children often compare only the plain numbers and overlook the unit, for example with 750 g and 1 kg. Always ask first whether the units are the same.

How to practice at home

Take two packages from the pantry and decide together which one is heavier.
