Every number has a predecessor (one less) and a successor (one more).
Example: The neighbours of 450 are 449 and 451.
449 ← 450 → 451
This also works with big numbers, watch out for the hundreds boundary!
The numbers filled in show the solution.

What does this exercise practice?
This exercise strengthens understanding of the number order up to 1000 and secures counting on across tens and hundreds boundaries.
Common pitfalls
Children often get stuck at hundreds boundaries. The predecessor of 700 is 699, the successor of 599 is 600. Draw special attention to these transitions.
How to practice at home
Say a three-digit number and let your child name its neighbours. Numbers like 499 or 800 are especially exciting.
