A pattern repeats over and over, like a border design.
This is how you do it:
1. Look closely at the start of the pattern.
2. Find the building block that repeats, for example circle, circle, triangle.
3. Continue drawing the pattern into the empty fields.

Recognise regularities in patterns, determine the basic building block and continue the pattern confidently.
Common pitfalls
Children sometimes see the building block as too short, for example just circle instead of circle, circle, triangle. Have them say the block out loud until it sounds complete.
How to practice at home
Lay out your own border design with building blocks or beads and have your child continue it, then swap roles.
