Sliding: Every corner of the shape moves the same distance, for example 5 squares right and 2 up. The shape stays the same size and does not turn.
Turning: The shape turns around the dot, and the dot stays where it is. A quarter turn clockwise goes like the clock hand, a half turn turns the shape upside down.
Drawing to size: Two squares are 1 cm. Start at the dot and draw with a ruler.
Tip: Count the squares from one corner and put a dot there. Join the dots at the end.
The pale shape shows the solution.

For parents
What does this exercise practice?
Slide shapes on grid paper and turn them around a point, draw rectangles, squares and right triangles to size.
Common pitfalls
When sliding, children often count from the wrong corner or move only part of the shape. When turning, it helps to turn the notebook as well.
How to practice at home
Cut a shape out of paper, lay it on grid paper and slide and turn it together. Then trace around it.
