You can split an even number into two equal halves without anything left over.
An odd number always leaves a remainder of one.
Tip: only look at the last digit, even with six-digit numbers!
If the number ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8, it is even.
If the number ends in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9, it is odd.
Example: 124,536 is even (ends in 6), 357,819 is odd (ends in 9).
The numbers filled in show the solution.

What does this exercise practice?
Recognize that even with six-digit numbers, only the last digit decides odd and even.
Common pitfalls
Children often look at the whole number. Only the ones digit decides, all the other places do not matter.
How to practice at home
Pick numbers from the newspaper or from receipts and say together whether they are even or odd.
