Who stands where?

Each animal has its own place: with four animals that is 1, 2, 3 or 4. Place 1 is right at the front. The number goes in the box under the animal.
The order in which the animals are drawn tells you nothing. Draw the places as dashes on a sheet and put the animals on them using the clues.
Start with the safest clue - "right at the front" or "right at the back" fixes a place immediately.
Clues like "directly ahead of" tell you two places at once, and they must be next to each other.

For parents

What does this exercise practice?

Order puzzles practice positional language (ahead of, behind, directly ahead) and ordering by conditions rather than by size.

Common pitfalls

"Ahead of" and "directly ahead of" are easily mixed up. "Ahead of" means somewhere in front, "directly ahead" means immediately in front, with nobody in between.

How to practice at home

Stand in a row as a group of three or four and read out the clues - who has to go where?
